Planning Services

The Planning Department plays a diverse role in leading community planning conversations for the municipality and administering and implementing the Municipality of East Ferris Official Plan and Zoning By-Law. Planning staff oversee development control and zoning as well as long-range community planning and provide planning advice and guidance to Council, municipal staff, property owners, residents and property developers on the use of land within the Municipality. The Municipal Official Plan and Zoning By-Law set out the designations and permitted uses on each parcel of land. Staff recommendations on planning applications in accordance with the Planning Act, the Provincial Policy Statement, the Northern Growth Plan, and the Municipality’s Official Plan and Zoning By-Law.

It is recommended that you discuss your development plans with the Planning Department prior to commencing. There are times when an Official Plan Amendment, a Zoning By-law Amendment, a Consent to Sever, a Site Plan Control Agreement or a Minor Variance is required in order to achieve your goals. The application process can be lengthy, so it is important to consult early.

The Manager of Planning & Economic Development is responsible for all statutory enforcement functions under the Planning Act and oversees the activities of the Planning and Economic Development Department. The Manager of Planning & Economic Development reports to the Chief Administrative Officer.

All inquiries related to the Ontario Building Code or Ontario Building Code Act should be directed to the Building Department.
